Cori Gauff is a gifted tennis player whose zeal for the game itself has propelled her to national and global recognition as a force to be reckoned with. At the age of 15, Gauff recently became the youngest tennis player to qualify for Wimbledon. Gauff’s win brings to mind 15-year-old Jennifer Capriati’s unprecedented win in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 1991 when she played against Martina Navratilova.
In a display of speed and poised athleticism, Gauff entered her first Wimbledon match to play against her idol, Venus Williams. Gauff’s keen focus on both her serves and ground strokes on both offense and defense proved effective in the match. Gauff defeated Venus Williams by a score of 6-4, 6-4 on the first round of Wimbledon.
